Marsala in the Design World
February 9, 2015
Described as delicious, luxurious and robust, the Pantone 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala, has begun appearing in kitchen and bath products. Best paired with white tones and light wood, this natural, earthy wine red works as accent pieces, accessories and paint, as shown by the new products that have embraced it.
Furniture
Adding to Hastings Tile & Bath’s Design Flexibility Collection of vanities, Made features a rich Rosso Rubino finish and several options of configurations. All the cabinets have push-to-open drawers and optional rail handles. Joined with aluminum trim to inhibit warping, the thick top and sides converge at mitered corners. Inner cabinet LED lighting is also available, as well as coordinating mirrors. To complete the look, tall open storage cabinets can be installed. The countertops are available in multiple configurations, including solid surface in five colors or wood and glass tops.
Tile
Daltile’s Egyptian Glass in Rosetta adds a touch of wine to kitchen backsplashes, decorative borders or accents. Each piece is one square foot and is made in an unglazed smooth finish with a low sheen and moderate shade variation. Designed for indoor or outdoor use, the glass tile has a water absorption of less than 0.5 percent, is frost proof and is skid resistant.
Surfaces
Color Coated Glass from Bendheim uses textured glass and satin-smooth etched glass in Pantone’s color. The glass is applicable for wall cladding, backsplashes, countertops and tabletops. The company’s color-coating process uses specialty water-based paints to create an enduring VOC-free product. In addition, the UV-resistant color coatings are formulated to last for many years, while the naturally hygienic, non-porous glass surfaces are maintenance friendly. Color Coated Glass can be tempered or laminated for additional safety and security and is available in thicknesses ranging from ¼ to ¾ inches and sizes up to 60 by 120 inches.
ATI Decorative Panels has added a Merlot finish to its the MirroFlex Morocco pattern. MirroFlex is a decorative thermoplastic panel with high-impact, chemical, abrasion, stain and fire-resistant properties. Originally designed for walls, its three-dimensional and flat panels are used on ceilings, backsplashes, lighting and trim.
Lighting
Designed by Oliver Schick, the bell-shaped Ronde from SuiteNY is a modern interpretation of the traditional pendant lamp with its hand-turned aluminum shade, painted in an matte lacquer. Meaning round in several languages, Ronde is available in five colors, including Marsala.
