Whirlpool Celebrates 13-year Partnership with Habitat for Humanity

September 19, 2013

Whirlpool has been partnering with Habitat for Humanity for several years and provides one of its refrigerators and ranges to every new Habitat home built in North America. This year is the company’s 13th year of this sponsorship, and so far a whopping 76,000+ homes have benefitted from it.

Whirlpool chose to be involved in this particular organization to raise awareness of and the address the need for affordable housing, as well as to support the home-building industry.

The appliance manufacturer also sponsors a select number of new Habitat builds each year, and this year it has sponsored seven, which brings its total number of sponsored homes to more than 100. For these homes, which are located in cities with Whirlpool facilities, the company provides financing, appliances and volunteers to complete the construction.

Whirlpool has donated more than 350,000 appliances for Habitat for Humanity to date, and the two organizations have announced the locations for the Whirlpool-sponsored new builds this year. One will take place in Bloomington, Ill., as part of a campus build at Indiana University, as well as in the following communities:

  • Benton Harbor, Mich., home to Whirlpool Corporation’s World and North American Region headquarters
  • Findlay, Marion and Ottawa, Ohio, the locations for three manufacturing facilities in the state
  • Tulsa, Okla., home of a Whirlpool manufacturing facility
  • Cleveland, Tenn., location of the company’s new premium cooking facility

Whirlpool’s global involvement with Habitat for Humanity has resulted in a financial contribution nearing $78 million. Other key corporate partners for Habitat include Dow Chemical Company, Valspar, the Home Depot Foundation, Schneider Electric, Lowe’s and Yale Locks & Hardware.
