On our most recent From the Tap podcast, we spoke with Calvin and Chris LaMont, who are the stars of HGTV’s new show, “Buy It or Build It.” We chatted about how to create boundaries when working with family members, as these twin brothers have a lot of experience with that.

The fifth sizzle reel they shot for HGTV over the years was a charm, and the new show is scheduled to air in May. Chris is the “buy it” brother, and Calvin fulfills the “build it” role, and they work together to make a family’s home dreams come true.

The brothers say that working with a family member has its ups and downs, but because they know each other so well, it is easier to be candid with one another. If they do end up not being able to come to a joint decision on something important, they have a solution for this, so listen to the whole podcast to find out what that is!

Chris and Calvin obviously grew up together, and because of that and the fact that they spend a lot of time together outside of work as well, their business goals are aligned. And because they are family members, they feel a more direct need to be accountable to each other.

The LaMont brothers did share some instances when they do not agree on something, as well as the biggest issue that causes their arguments. They also have a successful way of dealing with this – something more obvious than you might expect.
