Successful Kosher Kitchen Design

June 8, 2022

On our most recent podcast, we spoke with designer Daniella Hoffer of New Jersey-based Daniella Hoffer Interiors about how to design a successful kosher kitchen for your clients. She began perfecting kosher kitchen design starting with her own when her home was built about seven years ago.

Hoffer shared with us the nuances of designing a kosher kitchen versus one that is not, and a lot of the effort goes into keeping certain kinds of food and the dishes that serve them separate. This may or may not require more square footage, and Hoffer has some excellent tips for including what you need in a smaller space.

Some kosher kitchen clients want two sinks and separate or double ovens for various foods. The designer also explained what is needed in the kitchen on the Sabbath – even when actual meals aren’t being prepared. She explained that kosher kitchen design doesn’t necessarily mean a more expensive project and details some ways in which you can splurge and save with your client’s budget.

If a client’s kitchen isn’t already kosher, but that is the direction in which they are heading. Hoffer has a detailed discussion with them on the original layout. She takes into consideration how many people might be using the space at a given time and what kind of cooking they are doing.

Just as with standard kitchens, kosher spaces require function and aesthetics, and many of same material choices are used in both. Hoffer shared her tips for overcoming space issues with multiple appliances. Hint: It sometimes all comes down to compromise.

We ended our discussion with some advice for designers wanting to learn more about creating kosher kitchens. You can learn more by watching the full video above or listening to the podcast on SpotifyGoogle PodcastsApple PodcastsPandora and other outlets.
