What Homeowners Want from Their Industry Pros

On this week’s From the Tap podcast, we spoke with Liza Hausman, vice president of industry marketing at Houzz, about what homeowners want from the industry professionals they hire. Houzz recently conducted some research on this topic by surveying 900 homeowners who were planning, in the midst of or had completed a renovation within the last two years.

Hausman shared with us some surprising things homeowners care most about during their renovations, which include online presence, among others. We also talked about the most important factors homeowners consider when choosing a pro for their projects, and the survey also discovered how industry professionals can up their game via online visualization tools.

Communication also goes a long way with clients before, during and after a project, which has always been the case, but is even more important given the industry challenges we are all going through. Even though it may sound like bad news, clients want to be updated on a regular basis about things like product and timeline delays.

Although homeowners are obviously more educated on some of our industry’s challenges, they are still personally frustrated. Setting expectations up front can help. Hausman also shared some ways that pros can help make the experience better for their clients, as well as popular questions homeowners ask before they hire a professional.

Lastly, we talked about what homeowners find challenging during their projects, and among a few other things, having more financial visibility was a big one. Hausman also shared her ideas of what we can expect from our industry in 2022.
