A Look Inside the Kingston Design Showhouse

October 25, 2021

For the Kingston Design Showhouse, the Kingston Design Connection partnered with the Kingston City Land Bank to further their mission of building community through design by fostering local economic development and creating beautifully designed spaces. The Kingston City Land Bank is a not-for-profit public authority that creates affordable, first-time homeownership opportunities in Kingston, N.Y. The organization will eventually sell the showhouse to a family that earns no more than 80% of the area’s median income.

Founded by Maryline Damour, the Kingston Design Connection links local makers, vendors and contractors to each other, to potential clients and to the growing design scene in the Hudson Valley region.

Dating from the late 18th-early 19th century, the 1,340-sq.-ft, brick-clad home was renovated by the Land Bank. The scope of work includes restoring the historic front porch, repointing the exterior, stabilizing the foundation, and replacing the roof and windows. After this work was completed, the showhouse designers went to work. “By using a Land Bank property for the showhouse, we are saving them a significant portion of their interiors budget,” said Damour. “This way they can renovate more homes in a faster timeframe, and we can provide a homeowner with a beautifully designed home that creates further value for their investment.”
