The Inspiration Behind Kitchen and Bath Designs

March 1, 2023

On this week’s From the Tap Podcast, we spoke with Tina Ramchandani, owner of NYC-based luxury design firm, Tina Ramchandani Creative, about the inspiration behind her kitchen and bath designs and how she creates timeless projects.

What she sees on her travels has a huge impact on her projects. The designer shared interesting shower ideas from hotels in which she has stayed, as well as layout concepts from various restaurants.

On her recent trip to Paris, Ramchandani was able to find vintage pieces at local markets, and she brought home art from Bangkok last summer. In addition to visiting landmarks and museums, she makes time to see what people are shopping for in design destinations as well.

The designer also gets loads of inspiration for her kitchen and bath designs by attending various industry trade shows, such as KBIS and High Point Market. She loves the idea that a lot of companies and brands that exhibit are trying to solve a problem or fill a need.

We pivoted over to how Ramchandani creates timeless kitchen and bath designs and uses trends in thoughtful ways, so her clients never grow tired of their kitchens or baths. If a client really wants to incorporate a trend that may go out of style in a few years, she suggests doing it in doses instead of all at once. She also considers who is living in the home and how they may use the space as their children grow or as their needs change.

The designer says white kitchens aren’t going anywhere, but she is over Moroccan tiles and wood-look tiles. She is still on board with waterfall countertops and boucle fabrics.
