2020 Good Design Awards Recognize BlueStar and Karndean Designflooring

January 21, 2021

The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design honored BlueStar and Karndean Designflooring with 2020 Good Design awards. BlueStar’s innovation in customized appliance design BlueStar by Design and Karndean’s Heritage Collection, Opus and Karndean LooseLay earned recognition. The prestigious awards emphasize quality design of the highest form, function and aesthetic.

Exclusive to BlueStar in the appliance category, the BlueStar by Design cutting-edge printing process allows any image, graphic, text, print, pattern or artwork to be applied to kitchen appliances like a range or refrigerator in a durable and smooth, satin-like finish that can be easily cleaned. No other appliance manufacturer offers this personalized approach to appliance design.

“If you can dream it, BlueStar can make it,” said Eliza Sheffield, president, BlueStar. “This unique process of adding patterns or any graphic to a kitchen appliance enables the designer and BlueStar to work in tandem to create an incredibly distinctive, well-designed space. We are honored to be recognized with an award as prestigious as Good Design for our commitment to innovation and superior product design.”

With BlueStar, consumers can not only match any color, but also create any pattern or print, apply any photograph or replicate an original work of art for an appliance design that is not only extremely personal to the homeowner, but can be a signature piece for the interior designer.

Scheduled to formally launch at retail in mid-2021, design inspirations have included textile designs by various interior designers, including Kendall Wilkinson (California), Caitlin Wilson (Texas) and Madcap Cottage (North Carolina).

Karndean Flooring Heritage Collection

Karndean Designflooring LVT picked up three 2020 Good Design awards for its Heritage Collection, Opus and Karndean LooseLay.

Inspired by geometric tiled floors found in Victorian and Regency homes and landmarks, the Clifton and Mayfair patterns within the 20mil glue-down Heritage Collection have been developed to capture the opulence of these traditional English architectural styles and patterns and embody the pinnacle of designed floors. The monochromatic and bold palettes complement classic spaces and contemporary interiors alike.

The latest stone additions to the sleek and elegant Opus 20mil glue-down range include easy-to-install 18-by-24-in. patterned tiles inspired by the artistic beauty of traditional Moroccan architecture and an additional colorway and 18-by-3-in. size format of an existing limestone visual that may be interpreted as stained concrete.

Available in a 20mil loose lay format, eight new stone visuals were added to the Karndean LooseLay non-interlocking, floating floor range. Replicating the in-demand looks of travertine, concrete and slate, Karndean LooseLay is notable for multi-directional visuals, fast install time, acoustic properties (ΔIIC 16dB), individually replaceable pieces and a seamless transition to commercial carpet tile.
