KBB’s 2017 Design Award Winners Announced

KBB is thrilled to announce our 2017 Design Award winners! Our esteemed panel of judges chose the winning kitchen, bath and showroom projects based on such criteria as fulfilling clients’ requirements; solving design challenges; and incorporating innovative thinking in the form of aesthetics, function, product usage and technology.

This year’s winning projects focused on design for different needs and more than one person; functional, working islands; the takeover of technology; entertaining, inspirational spaces; more boldness with color; and design for well-being.

We also introduced five new winning categories this year, which include Best Use of Color, Best Sustainable Design, Best Smart Design, Best Universal Design and Best Balanced Budget.

This year’s judges were also the cream of the crop and included three designers and one showroom director with various specialties from all over the country. Two of this year’s judges included KBB’s very own Editorial Advisory Board members.

Meet this Year’s Judges

Kate Bailey is the director of showrooms for Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, overseeing the strategic direction for Ferguson’s 280 showrooms nationwide. With an “our showroom is your showroom” mentality, she insists that Ferguson showrooms serve as an extension of its trade customers’ business and focuses on providing continuing education and support to industry partners.

Jim Barna is the owner of TrueLeaf Kitchens in Basking Ridge, N.J., and he was a winner in the 2016 KBB Design Awards competition. He and his team at TrueLeaf believe that creating the right space in the home will truly transform the way you live. They appreciate the opportunity to help people create amazing new spaces to enjoy with family and friends for years to come.

Michael Menn is a licensed architect and designer and holds three designations within the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). His practice, which he started in 1986, has since evolved into an architectural, planning, interior design and construction firm. Menn has been honored with multiple awards, including the most recent Remodeler of the Year Award from the NAHB.

Sol Quintana Wagoner, senior designer for Jackson Design and Remodeling, was born and raised in Argentina and was involved in various projects in Buenos Aries before moving to Southern California where she now practices her passion for home design. As guest editor for KBB last year, Jonathan Adler personally selected one of her kitchens as a feature story.
