York Wallcoverings Announces 2022 Color of the Year

November 17, 2021

York Wallcoverings, the largest and oldest wallcoverings producer in the U.S., has announced its 2022 Color of the Year: At First Blush, a dusty pink that balances the fine line between warm neutral and expressive statement. While pinks have increasingly become en vogue in recent years, York’s 2022 selection is based on a growing favor for sophisticated earth tones, hues that can flex into bolder palettes, and interiors that promote calm and serenity.

“Traditionally accepted as a nonaggressive color, blush has quietly moved into focus as a cornerstone of contemporary interiors,” said Carol Miller, trend and color expert for York Wallcoverings. “As a breathtaking companion to earth tones, or the luminescent hue of far distant galaxies, the color blush possesses a rich and dynamic beauty that acts as both anchor and inspiration across all borders, boundaries, and tribes. We’re thrilled to designate At First Blush as our 2022 Color of the Year.”

To demonstrate the color’s versatility and overall impact in the spaces that surround us, York has released three distinct color palettes featuring At First Blush. The palettes are paired with a selection of York’s wallcoverings patterns that incorporate the on-trend hues, presenting a colorful spectrum of inspirations for today’s designers and homeowners.

Natural: Desert Evening. Pink is hailed by science as the first color created by an organic source on planet earth – and as such, the color family has a deep, inherent connection to nature. This color complements everything from the luxury of rich minerals and gemstones to earthen clay and adobe.

Retro: Cool Cat. Happy self-expression with a vintage vibe offers a blush with confidence to make the past our own and celebrate the future. Here, pinks punctuate and freshen across looks that are fun and familiar. These bolder hues bring a fresh energy to several York patterns that reflect patterns and trends like grandmillennial, chinoiserie, palm leaves and more.

Spiritual: Lotus. Deeply connected to matters of the heart, blush is associated with promoting calm and serenity, and supporting in spaces that relieve stress and anxiety.
