Small Bathroom Beautifully Redesigned to Meet Mobility Needs
The original 1970s hallway bathroom posed challenges for a family member with mobility issues, and universal design principles were later applied.
A narrow bathtub/shower combination behind a door did not allow anyone with mobility issues to access the shower.
The bulkhead over the sink and shower were later removed to give a more spacious feel to the bathroom.
Recessed medicine cabinets from Restoration Hardware were installed to fit the room’s cottage-like feel.
The room’s open feel was continued with the inclusion of a half wall in the shower coupled with frameless glass doors.
Carrera marble using a subway pattern covered the shower walls with a contrasting twilight blue glass mosaic in the niche and the banding.
Supporting the upscale cottage-like design, the owners chose slightly textured two-in. hexagonal tumbled marble tiles for the flooring, with a cove base tile serving as the base molding around the perimeter.
