Designer Shane Inman of the Inman Company started with a blank shell and ended with a compact, but high-functioning kitchen. “[The client] is a chef and needed a full kitchen, so we really placed an emphasis on function first,” he said.
As a Swiss local, the client asked for a high-contemporary style. “The clean, contemporary sleekness of it all is very Swiss,” said Inman.
Striated bamboo cabinets, each designed with a specific function, line the walls for a contemporary, light appeal. Sleek lines and stainless steel fixtures complete the picture.
Inman created additional storage by adding a cabinet to the peninsula and then topped the bar with a frosted glass top. “I wanted to do something that was a little more sophisticated,” commented Inman.
Square porcelain tiles, made to mimic concrete, line the floor for a neutral foundation. “I wanted the floor to disappear and more of the focal points to be on the furniture of the space,” explained Inman.
Two frosted glass cabinets flank the glass-topped hood. “When it comes to cabinets, some clients are very receptive to glass, and some are not,” explained Inman. “She keeps her cabinets very organized, so it worked for her.”
Combined with the nearly 20-ft.-high ceilings, glass pendants and suspended track lighting keep the design light and airy.
“There’s a very cohesive flow in here and nothing really stands out,” said Inman. “I’d have to say that the emphasis is more on design in this kitchen, rather than the look-at-me aesthetic of color.”
