This view of the Hawaiian coast was once diminished by a closed off, outdated kitchen design. Designer Tiare Pinto, owner and president of Archipelago Hawaii, opened up the condo to create a contemporary island feel.
The kitchen was moved two feet into the common area to increase the workspace around the sink and accommodate seating at the counter bar.
The team also removed the bar height wall that surrounded the original kitchen and pushed the eating bar out into the common area, keeping it at counter height level.
A wine/buffet area ties into the kitchen with identical cabinetry but boasts a tropical leaf pattern on two etched glass cabinets.
Maple wood cabinetry, stained in a pewter gray color, offers a modern appeal that pairs with a quartz countertop in blue.
The backsplash, a blend of gray tiles with hints of blue, highlights the colors in the countertop and adds texture and a reflective quality to the space.
The homeowners wanted a similar aesthetic for the master bath: contemporary, tropical and yet spa like.
A waterfall edge off the vanity accentuates the quartz countertop.
Eliminating the full-height wall at the toilet and adding a frosted glass panel above created the open but private feel for this guest bath. The river rock detail and wood plank porcelain tiles add an island feel while keeping with the modern aesthetic of the condo.
