The Modenus DesignHounds Share Their Favorite KBIS 2020 Finds
Allison Mattison of Trellis Home loved Nobilia‘s kitchen furniture. “It was truly amazing to learn about this new (to America) product and also learn more about the concept of kitchen furniture. I’ve long been a fan of bauhaus, and I believe Nobilia will be an important interrupter in the kitchen design arena as it grows its presence here and people learn more about it! The flexibility, sleek modern style and price are incredible!”
One of True House designer Alyce Lopez‘s choices was LG Sphere Ice. “I’m a huge fan of a good Old Fashioned, so you can imagine my excitement when I was introduced to a refrigerator that makes sphere ice! I’ve dealt with the plastic molds, and they are such a hassle and you definitely do not get a clear sphere like you do with LG’s new introduction. I’m so excited to see a product that encourages entertaining because we all need to share some whiskey! Haha!
Designer Amanda Carlson of Anthem Collective loved the sink with the wheelchair underneath from Elkay. “I love that they are taking ADA guidelines into the equation and making an everyday item accessible.”
Designer Margot Austin chose the Moen x Inly Aromatherapy Shower. “I loved that this includes actual fragrance blends created by a French parfumeur rather than being just single element scents. I liked the approach of fragrances based on moods or times of day. I also love how this is a luxury shower experience at an affordable price – because we deserve that!”
Designer Laurence Carr chose Riobel‘s Parabola Bath Collection. “The goal of this luxury modern collection is to be the focus point of the bathroom. Parabola designer Eveline Simard explains, ‘The parabolic surface offers a simple design highlighting an inviting geometry and elegant curves creating a unique profile.’ This collection result is a sculpted faucet with elegant curves that offers expanded light reflection in its surrounding area.”
Emily Clark of Clark & Co. Homes chose Emtek‘s marble lever handle with a satin brass rosette. “Emtek always wows with its classic yet still fashion-forward designs in finishes that feel rich and luxurious. The marble lever addition to the collection knocked my socks off at KBIS, and I can’t wait to use it!”
Designer Jennifer Hyman of Hyman Interiors chose the completely customizable cooktop from Signature Kitchen Suite that allows the client to cook the way that best fits their lifestyle with sous vide, two gas burners and an induction plate.
Designer Jennifer Tampasis of Jennifer Lynn Interiors chose the Robern Medicine Cabinet. “This medicine cabinet is an uplift cabinet! You simply slide the mirror up to reveal the cabinet behind the mirror. The sleek, clean, contemporary style is paired with innovative technology. It also employs a defogger, LED lighting and an outlet and USB port inside. This is a perfect addition when trying to save space in your new bathroom!”
Designer Christine Kohut chose TOTO‘s new vessel sinks and faucets. “The sinks have the same technology as their toilets; the finish repels stains and bacteria. Even deeply pigmented lipsticks wipe off easily with just a cloth. The faucets are made to order in Japan, and they are high-end quality with gorgeous finishes and amazingly smooth bearings that allow the handles to be adjusted by the simplest touch.”
Designer Niki McNeill of Raleigh Interior Design Studio liked that the Huajincheng Ceramics Co. allows designers to create jewelry for the bathroom with unlimited custom color options and finishes for ceramic vessel sinks.
Laura Muller, CEO/owner and principal interior designer at Four Point Design Build Inc. chose Kohler for one of her favorites. “It’s an open and shut case…I mean lid…LOL. This streamlined (and quite lovely, actually) toilet was a surprise. FINALLY, a massively functional toilet that actually looks sexy. I know, incredible, right?!? The San Souci Comfort-Height 1.28 GPF Toilet with a cleansing seat offers sp many beautiful neutral color finish selections.”
Carlson also appreciated Trueform Concrete‘s amazing work, including custom. Shown is the “Canyon Sink,” which features a topographic map of the canyon near the home (located in southern California).
Carr was also impressed with the Fisher & Paykel Series 9 Integrated Wine Cabinet, which is panel ready and offers independent dual zones – each with four wine modes. It has a 91-bottle capacity and can be paired with an integrated column refrigerator and freezer.
Clark also chose the Waterlands because the company offers classic bath silhouettes in an array of one-of-a-kind finish options, including polished brass, polished copper, polished pewter, stainless steel, verdegris copper and white.
Hyman was also impressed with Art for Everyday. “They have architectural wood carvings, panels, legs and corbels. They can create anything.”
Mattison was impressed by Compac Surfaces. “It’s like unique sculpture for your home. The wear and tear and lifetime warranty are an amazing plus!”
Muller also chose Richelieu. “It was refreshing to see the gorgeous new hardware designs from this tried-and-true company. The stunning collection of artisan-designed hardware had me inspired and surprised; in particular, this contemporary metal cabinet pull designed by Alessandro Piva. The entire collection took my breath away. Great sizes and finishes are available.”
Tampasis also chose the wine dispenser from Plum. “I love when a product solves a problem. My husband loves his beer, while I love my red wine. I always hesitate to open a bottle of wine because I don’t want to be rushed to finish the bottle before it goes bad. Plum introduced a wine appliance that preserves open wine bottles. You drop the bottles into the countertop appliance, and it automatically reads the label and dispenses your own personal glass of wine! Plum keeps your wine fresh for 90 days. This means I can open a nice bottle of red and enjoy it at my pace.”
