The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and Renovation Angel announced the 2022 winners of the NKBA Renovation Angel Luxury Recycled Kitchen Awards. Concepted in 2018 to applaud kitchen and bath industry professionals for their commitment to keeping construction materials out of landfills, the NKBA and Renovation Angel partnered to encourage all kitchen and bath manufacturers, designers and showrooms to support the concept of recycling and upcycling wherever possible.

“Working with Renovation Angel, the NKBA is pleased to support Steve’s efforts to keep 50 million pounds out of landfills,” said Suzie Williford, EVP, and chief strategy officer of the NKBA. “An average kitchen represents 7,000 pounds, including cabinetry, countertops, sinks, appliances and other finishing materials. If our combined efforts can continue to drive awareness of this opportunity and encourage everyone to consider alternative uses for old kitchens, we will help to drive the circular economy. I’m so pleased our association is a part of this important work.”

Luxury Recycled Kitchen Award Winners and Judges 

Suzie Williford, Steve Feldman and George Oliphant, host of NBC show George to the Rescue, announced the following award winners during KBIS 2022 at the KBISNeXT Stage, Feb. 9, 2022, in Orlando:

Most Valuable Recycled Kitchen – Reclaimed: Rebecca Mark, SMI Construction, N.Y.C.

Best Ultra Luxury Kitchen – Reclaimed: Gary Ciuffo, Ciuffo Cabinetry, Bayport, N.Y.

Most Upcycled Kitchens: Peter Deane, Deane Inc., Stamford and New Canaan, Conn.

Small Repurposed Kitchen: Susan Vanech, Susan Vanech Properties, Westport, Conn.

Medium Repurposed Kitchen: Mina Greiss, Greiss Holdings LLC, Nutley, N.J.

Large Repurposed Kitchen: Bobbie DeCarlo, Reich/Eklund Construction, Inc., Shelter Island, N.Y.

The final Luxury Recycled Kitchen Award is called the “Angel Discretionary Award.” Each year, this award is given to a designer, firm or manufacturer that has been the most impactful in the world of luxury kitchen recycling.

Best Practice for Recycling

Miele is the first global manufacturer that has built luxury kitchen recycling into their sales best practice. By introducing “Recycle & Rebate,” Miele recognizes the importance of incorporating a recycling process to a luxury renovation, advancing a productive means of doing something with a historically wasted resource. ​
