Salone del Mobile Announces 2021 Event Curator

Architect Stefano Boeri

May 27, 2021

The architect Stefano Boeri has been announced as the curator of the special 2021 event under the banner of the Salone del Mobile.Milano. Boeri will be assisted by a team of young internationally renowned architects and professionals.

The Board of Directors of Federlegno Arredo Eventi SpA has confirmed that it has entrusted Boeri with the task of planning the new concept and exhibition modalities for the event, which will be held Sept. 5 to 10, 2021, at Fiera Milano, Rho, and a number of city venues.

“We are working on what will be an unmissable event in all respects, open to both professionals and the general public,” said Boeri. “As well as the companies’ recent and most outstanding innovations, high quality design products will be displayed and available at one-off prices, responding to the desire currently being expressed by thousands of families and companies to rethink our domestic and workspaces. The 2021 edition is confirmation, yet again, of Milan’s centrality as the global capital of creative innovation and social generosity.”

The spaces and thematic pathways conceived by the team of international curators will dialogue in an original and dynamic way with the new Salone del Mobile.Milano digital platform, which – following the launch, slated for June – will truly come into its own during the special 2021 event. The six days in September will thus be a major hub of innovation ahead of the 60th edition of the Salone scheduled for April 2022.

It is a unique project in terms of format and artistic concept, geared not just to the world of sectoral professionals and to the international design community, but also to the general consumer public. As well as the opportunity to admire the latest products and creations issued by the brands over the last 18 months, there will be a chance for visitors to purchase goods showcased by the companies at exclusive prices at the Rho fairgrounds.

The event, titled “supersalone,” will be a one-off occasion on the international furnishing and design scene thanks to an exhibition that will allow the companies to present the best products that have emerged over the last year and a half, in a highly emotional and scenographic setting.

“The September event will be unique and innovative and, thanks to the experience and sensitivity of the architect Stefano Boeri and the young curators working alongside him, will showcase the best of the skills and innovative powers of our companies to a national and international public,” said Claudio Feltrin, president of FederlegnoArredo. The event will provide an opportunity for visitors to explore and discover more about the current evolution in the world of furnishing and contemporary living, affirming Milan’s place as the undisputed capital of the design economy.

“A symbol of the recovery, around which all those who give of their best will gather and honor what the Salone del Mobile.Milano has always represented. We would like to thank all the institutions that have supported and will continue to support us in this wonderful adventure.”

The proposed format will be that of a large design library, which will celebrate the renewed attention and care devoted to contemporary living spaces, designed to valorize and harmonize the new products and creations brought out by the companies during the last 18 months with their traditional products which, thanks to the debut of the Salone del Mobile.Milano digital platform, will be available to purchase at the culmination of a packed and engaging customer journey (part of the profits will go to a charitable cause).

The layout will consist of long parallel sets, designed for the specific goods categories, and will allow the companies to narrate their own identities and their own products on vertical walls and, in some cases, on horizontal surfaces, both of which will be modular. This fluid and dynamic exhibition set-up will allow visitors to navigate freely inside a huge national and international archive of creativity, excellence and savoir faire.

With circularity and sustainability uppermost, all the display materials and components have been designed to be dismantled and reused. Furthermore, thanks to the Forestami project, a green welcome area with 200 trees, will be set up at the East Gate of the fairgrounds. The trees will subsequently be relocated to Milan’s metropolitan area after the six-day event.

“The ‘supersalone’ is the result of the generosity and the creativity of the companies and design professionals at an extremely delicate point in the recovery and relaunch of the economy and culture,” said Boeri. “For the first time, the Salone del Mobile.Milano will be open throughout to the great consumer public, allowing them a chance to select and purchase the very best international design products. Thanks to the joint efforts of thousands of producers, professionals, retailers, technicians, workmen, display specialists, designers and fans, for six days the Rho Fairgrounds will once again be the epicenter of international design.

“I would like to thank FederlegnoArredo and the Salone del Mobile.Milano for their confidence in me and for their courage in being determined to honor such an important appointment.”
