Jonathan Adler Collab with Lunada Bay Tile

April 21, 2022

Lunada Bay Tile is proud to introduce Shelter Island by Jonathan Adler, a ceramic tile collection inspired by the sun, the sand, the clouds, and the architecture of the designer’s Long Island, New York home. This new collection is exclusive to Lunada Bay Tile authorized dealers.

In this new collaboration, Adler’s imaginative expressions are brought to the art of ceramic tile. Think an abundance of craftsmanship, a dash of eclecticism, and a wink of mid-century magic—all reimagined through the lens of traditional hand-sculpted Japanese ceramics. The tiles are inspired by the colors and playful spirit of Adler’s beachfront retreat. The quiet, semi-matte hues are harmonious with both minimalist and maximalist spaces. The semi-transparent glazes accentuate the tiles’ handcrafted textures and dimension to add subtle depth to a bath, spa or as an accent wall.

Exclusive to KBB, Feras Irikat, director of design and marketing of Lunada Bay Tile, spoke of the new venture.

“The idea of brand collaboration has been on our minds for some time. We are embracing this new concept of bringing two brands together, as equals, to offer something completely different to the marketplace. It is important that a brand aligns with our values, our culture, and our aesthetics to create something that has a big audience impact,” said Irikat.

“Jonathan Adler is one of my personal favorites in terms of his talent as a designer and my own sense of style. I not only love his approach to pottery, which is whimsical and lighthearted but with a very high design value, I also love the fact that Jonathan is a potter as well as a designer – this connects him very personally to our industry.”

The collaboration between Lunada Bay Tile and Jonathan Adler is unique, a meticulous blend of Adler’s iconic aesthetic with Lunada Bay Tile’s expertise in tile design. The result: a design-forward, polished and modern option that brings elevated style to any space.

“We are thrilled to partner with such a trusted voice in world-class design, and we’re so pleased to introduce this new collection to our customers, partners and friends,” said Irikat. “This exciting collection builds on our heritage of blending traditional craftsmanship with creative influences. While all our collections speak to leading industry trends, our commitment to our customers is to continually deliver a diverse possibility of design.”

Known for his glamorous interiors, Adler is a paradox, creating exuberant and eclectic interiors juxtaposed by a refined elegance.

“From the moment I first touched clay as a 12-year-old at summer camp, I felt a connection. From that moment, it was ON: I saw the world through clay,” said Adler. “My collection with Lunada Bay Tile – inspired by my home on Shelter Island in the Hamptons – combines modern design with the impeccable craftsmanship of traditional hand-sculpted Japanese ceramics. I hope you like it as much as I do.”

Today, in addition to pottery, Adler designs furnishings, textiles, lighting, as well as home interiors, hotels and retail establishments around the globe – and now tile. The new Shelter Island tile series offers a chic new look and adds modern American glamor to either residential or commercial interiors.

“Jonathan has been offering his unique take on décor since 1993, bringing his iconic style to everything from lighting to furniture, and now, for the first time, tile. We love Jonathan’s design aesthetic, his creativity, his insistence on using only the highest quality materials, and his amazing sense of humor,” said Irikat.

Influenced by the Southern California lifestyle, and infused with a hint of Japanese sensibility, Lunada Bay Tile is known for its handcrafted glass, ceramic, and concrete tiles with an emphasis on simplicity, texture, and color. The designs are born from an impulse to transform spaces in ways that enrich the experience of people’s daily lives.
