Hansgrohe/Axor, Duravit and Trove Donate Products to Ronald McDonald House Charity
October 11, 2013
Hansgrohe/Axor, Duravit and Trove will contribute products to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island charity through Project Design 2013, an amalgamation of 22 New York-area designers who will transform the charity’s Long Island residence into a show house. After the project, the house will be a permanent space for families that use the charity’s services.
“The goal of the redesign was to give the residents modernized rooms that not only meet their functional needs but that also are visually inspiring,” said Danielle Colding, who is responsible for the design of the house’s public restrooms. “The main goal here was to do kid friendly spaces that are grounded in classic, timeless design.”
Hansgrohe donated showerheads and faucets, which the designers hand selected from the company’s catalogs, for the 18 bathrooms. Hansgrohe and Duravit are featured together in three common-area bathrooms as well. Trove’s Enyo wallcovering pattern was used in the laundry rooms.
“The most essential elements of the common bathrooms was to make sure that the spaces were ADA compliant,” said Colding. “It was so important in the selection of the bath and plumbing fixtures that they could serve the needs of those with disabilities. It was such a blessing to work with both Duravit and Hansgrohe/Axor, who met our functional needs with sleek and stylish design.”
Floating sinks and wall-hung toilets in the bathrooms meet ADA requirements by allowing room for wheelchairs. In an effort to make the bathrooms child friendly as well, Colding focused on color and pattern.
“While they are not kiddie rooms per se, the liveliness of the choices creates areas of interest wherever you look,” she added.
The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island’s Project Design will be open to the public on October 11-12 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Oct 13-14 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
