On this week’s episode of KBB’s From the Tap podcast, we welcomed designer Meredith Weiss, owner of Commack, N.Y-based Merri Interiors, where we received an exclusive rundown of the innovative design tips she’s come up with during her career.

I spoke with Meredith a year or so ago about how more organization and less clutter in her own kitchen helps alleviate stress and makes everyday chores easier for her. She starts her kitchen projects by determining which items her clients have to have in the space and those they can do without. She shared her go-to storage solutions for kitchens and baths – think toe kick drawers for both rooms for a variety of needs.

The designer also makes a point to include solutions that cater to kids and pets sharing a kitchen or bath space. She likes to include a drawer for each child in a kitchen so they have their own individual space, and she also shared some ideas to accommodate children in the bathroom. Lower-maintenance and durable product offerings and materials are a must for a household with pets.

Weiss also has a lot of experience designing mudrooms, which have become even more popular during the pandemic. A lot of the mudrooms she has created also serve multiple purposes, including for laundry facilities and pantry storage – as well as something totally out of the box (you’ll have to listen to the whole thing to get the scoop!).

She also shares her countertop material of choice, her ideas for incorporating luxury into a kitchen or bath space without breaking the bank and a few bolder colors she considers neutral.
