Top 2022 Kitchen Design Trends

December 29, 2021

On this week’s From the Tap podcast, we talked with JT Norman, director of product design and innovation for Kitchen Magic, a kitchen cabinet refacing firm in Nazareth, Pa., about his thoughts on the most relevant 2022 kitchen design trends we will see coming down the pike.

Some of the insights you may or may not have heard about include forest bathing, a slight drift from white and gray kitchens and a popular style in 1980 that seems to be making a comeback. Biophilia is becoming more mainstream as people are spending more time in their outdoor spaces, and we may see bolder colors as homeowners are wanting more personalization.

Norman had some interesting insights on today’s backsplash trends, and they include more than just quartz as a favorite material. I think we can all agree that two islands are better than one – if your clients have the space – and there are several different ways to use each in a kitchen. Our guest also had some clever ideas to get the most out of a smaller space if two islands is not possible.

He also shared the “it” finishes for hardware and plumbing fixtures, as well as why the more integrated look seems to be growing in popularity. Norman also tells us why open shelving is coming back and shared some other storage solutions: think PANTRY.

We discussed why the kitchen might be the worst spot in the house for working or schooling from home and talked about the new innovations in vinyl flooring. And finally, the industry pro told us about some trends that may be on their way out, as well as what’s coming for bathrooms.
