2023 Kitchen and Bath Design Trends

December 14, 2022

We recently spoke with JT Norman, director of business development, product and design innovation for Kitchen Magic, a kitchen cabinet refacing firm in Nazareth, Pa., about his picks for the top kitchen and bath design trends for 2023.

First on the list is the desire to incorporate natural elements inside the home – essentially bringing the outdoors in. Another term for this trend is “forest bathing,” and the designer doesn’t feel this makes a project pricier than if it did not include those natural elements.

Norman also addressed the need for less clutter in the home, which can minimize stress. He said pantries have become the new general store for the kitchen, and homeowners want them to be outfitted with a variety of storage options.

Bolder backsplashes and finishes are more popular, as clients are becoming more comfortable adding color to their homes. Designers are coming with new ideas for subway tile and adding texture where they can. Norman says the hardware and faucets are often seen as the jewelry of the kitchen or bath, and new finishes include hammered metal. He also says it’s okay to mix and match finishes and have some fun.

The designer also expanded on two cabinet styles he thinks will be popular in 2023 – both quite different from one another. He says farmhouse style is not on the way out, but that a revised idea of the style will be in favor.

Norman also spoke on 2023 kitchen and bath design color trends and feels blues and greens will continue to be popular choices. Earth tones reflect back on the need for natural elements in the home, and the designer told us which color he would love to see back in the kitchen next year.
