Top Renovation Searches So Far in 2020

We trust Google to help us with pretty much everything. The world’s most popular search engine receives thousands of queries every second. That’s why Review Home Warranties took a deep dive into Google to see what searches Americans were looking for to start the process of renovating their homes.

Through an analysis of Google Trends, which evaluates the relative popularity of certain search terms over time on a normalized 0–100 scale, we were able to determine the most popular type of home renovation project in the USA.

The analysis gave us some interesting results. A majority of homeowners were looking to renovate their bathroom with over 46,530 Google searches during January through to June this year. Kitchen remodeling was another noteworthy project type but the most interesting one was the search of backyard and home office renovations that came fourth and fifth. With the current pandemic a lot more people are staying at home so it seems homeowners are really wanting to try and improve their backyard and home offices.

We even dug a little deeper into the data and found that the COVID-19 lockdown renovation searches have gone up by 84 percent when compared to 2019 in the same period. Which shows that people at home were spending more time and money renovating their homes while in lockdown.

For each search, we took average monthly searches on Google and multiplied these by 6 to give estimated 6 month results. All search volumes are correct as of June 2020.

The most popular color decor in each state according to Google

We care a lot about making our house a home and for many an easy way of achieving the desired impact is picking the right color decor. We analyzed the number of Google searches for some of the most popular colour decor trends to find our which is the favourite in each state. The results below show that the nation is largely split between white and black decor.

We discovered that in 20 states that white decor is the most popular color of 2020. White decor topping the list seems unsurprising, being a versatile color and suiting every home! The study also unveiled that black decor came second with 15 states across the US is also really popular.

For each search, we took average monthly searches on a number of colors on Google and multiplied these by 6 to give estimated 6 month results. All search volumes are correct as of June 2020

But what are the top room ideas searches amongst the US? We’ve analyzed the number of searches on Google to find out!

We are constantly on the lookout to change up our homes, according to Google many of us are looking to revamp our bathrooms topping the list with 71,886 searches. Surprisingly home office ideas only came 7th, considering the recent pandemic with more people working from home we would have thought that would’ve been in the top 3!

Not only did we take a look at the data in general over the past 6 months but also looked into the data during the COVID-19 lockdown. Home ideas searches have increased by 15 percent when compared to 2019 in the same period!
