Maya Romanoff Porto Sólido Collection

December 14, 2023

Maya Romanoff, the manufacturer of handcrafted wallcoverings, has released an expansion to Porto Sólido, its fifth collaboration with award-winning architect and designer David Rockwell (FAIA). The collection is a responsibly harvested, colored and hand-inlaid cork on a luminous metallic foil.

Why Use Cork?

Trimmed from the renewable bark of the tree, cork is a durable and carbon-positive material that regenerates itself each time it is harvested, and in doing so, absorbs CO2. Impeccable on its own, Porto Sólido is the perfect coordinate for other Porto patterns Deco, Elo and Lino. The soft, organic texture of solid cork with flecks of metallic peeking through adds warmth and depth to any room. It is available in 10 sophisticated colorways, such as Alsace almond, rosé reserve and Syrah slate.

Romanoff, who founded Maya Romanoff, had a long-standing commitment to Eastern philosophy that has greatly influenced the company’s respect for the environment and materials. From early on, he instilled in every member of the company, a deep respect for material balanced with a lawless sense of play. These philosophies are clearly evident in this new collaboration that pairs responsibly manufactured, rapidly renewable cork with luxurious color combinations.

Porto Sólido is sustainably harvested cork and colored with water-based inks. Maya Romanoff uses micro-thin slices of cork, which allows the brand to use the least amount of material while still getting the desired effect. Porto Sólido is the latest example of Maya Romanoff’s commitment to creative collaborations and the company’s rigorous standard for quality, beauty and innovation. The collection is ideal for environments that require beauty and resilience, as it can be easily cleaned with a diluted bleach solution or disinfecting wipes.
