Woodworks Carbonised Collection

October 10, 2022

Woodworks has expanded its Carbonised Collection of floors inspired by Yakisugi, the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood to produce deep, silvered tones. The practice has many names, but it always involves the use of an open fire or controlled flame to char the wood before cooling, cleaning and treating it with natural oils to create a dark visual style and uniquely tactile feel.

Grasping Yakisugi is challenging, but Woodworks artisans assure that each piece is carefully charred to perfection. Once the wood is charred, they set to work on the surface, heavily brushing the wood and creating sculptural contours.

The Carbonised Collection now features an ever-evolving collection of weathered and mineral tones.

Pearl has a crisp, white appearance that cannot be achieved without the handcrafting expertise of the brand’s skilled artisans. The tone is graceful and subtle.

Garnet’s tones are amongst the most unique in the Woodworks portfolio. It has a contemporary, exciting green tone running throughout, which is rarely seen in wood.

Cinnabar has organic, tempered tones running throughout and is set to be a future design classic with its distinctive natural appearance.

A distinctive black look defines Zircon — it is consistent, and powerful.

Woodworks has updated even more floors in the Carbonised collection, with new versions of Moth, Oyster and more available online.
