Van Gogh’s “Irises” painting is behind this color-inspired bathroom, which uses a serene green in the wainscotting as well as brass and oak to introduce a natural feel to the space.
Designer Rae Duncan of Chicago-based Rae Duncan Interior Design installed neutral, hexagonal tile to this bathroom shower to add to its calming appeal. The shower brightens up the room with a glass door and elongated hexagonal tiles in gray and white.
“This is our clients’ second home – with their main home being out of state – so it made sense that they wanted this to be a serene place for them to escape to,” said Duncan.
In the teens’ bathroom, the goal was to not only make a spa-like, color-inspired space, but also to ensure the room was easy to clean and highly functional.
In the primary bathroom, the client wanted a more black-and-white design with touches of brass. Like with the teens’ bathroom, Duncan’s inspiration was a particular color palette: black, white and brass in this case.
The walls are covered in a linear gray-and-white tile with a ribbed appearance.
The black-framed glass shower doors add to the modern, European appeal in this color-inspired design.
For the ultimate relaxing space in this color-inspired bathroom, Duncan completed the shower with smart steam capabilities.
“The ribbed tile on the walls has the look of wallpaper but is much more durable,” said Duncan, who recommends covering the walls with tile for easy cleaning in the bathroom.
