Designer John McClain of Orlando, Fla.-based John McClain Design took on a project creating a sanctuary master bath for a husband and wife. This was no typical redesign; the wife suffers from a long-term illness, so the husband tasked the design team with creating the most rejuvenating setting possible for her.
The original bathroom had high ceilings but an awkward layout and outdated finishes.
The designers raised the ceiling even more and took advantage of the room’s tub niche to create a unique focal point.
“The bathroom design started with the tub niche, and as a fan of glamor, this is my favorite part,” said McClain. “I love that my team designed something that instantly grabs your attention but is highly functional while still being beautiful.”
“Our clients wanted more storage in the form of drawers, so we custom made a vanity that had drawers for storage but also open shelving for towels, which adds to the requested open feel,” said the designer.
One of the wife’s requests was for a specific area for makeup application. This vanity, which is on the opposite wall from the double vanity, provides for this with a tufted bench and customized storage.
