Alena Capra of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Alena Capra Designs was called on to create a serene bathroom out of an awkward layout, a too-small shower and an outdated bathtub.
While she wanted to flip the locations of the shower and bathtub, she knew she would be left without a wall for plumbing since the shower would be surrounded by windows.
Her solution was to create a tower between the shower and bathtub that would house the plumbing. She also made it a standout feature by covering it in blue herringbone-patterned tile.
To create more storage for the vanity, Capra designed two 6-in.-deep columns that extend up on either side of the new makeup area.
“The new layout has a huge open shower with lots of natural light and still a large soaking tub,” said Capra. “Flipping the floor plan really made it feel more spacious. We also really added a lot of storage with the tall cabinets and the addition of a linen closet inside the bath.”
