Designer Morgan Molitor of Minneapolis-based Construction2Style was given the hefty task of turning a children’s bedroom into a primary spa-like bathroom, complete with natural elements.
It was challenging to lay out a water closet, shower and vanity area in a narrow bedroom. The design team used Chief Architect to ensure that the resulting design felt open and bright despite the small space. The resulting linear layout has the toilet closet on the right upon walking in, with the vanity taking up the left wall.
“We were able to save by going with semi-prefab cabinetry over custom, and since we were working with a straightforward layout, we didn’t need to spend the extra money on a complicated floor plan,” said Molitor.
The natural wood vanity combines with black floor tile, black hardware and a white countertop for a serene balance of dark and light.
The double-sink vanity also has modern black hardware and black-lined mirrors – both of which connect to the black hexagonal flooring with white grout.
The wet room saved space and allowed the design team to build a larger shower while still including a freestanding tub in this spa-like bathroom.
“In the shower, we incorporated a green tile to accent the black flooring and hardware,” said Molitor. “To tie in the cabinetry, we went with a wood-planked ceiling, which added that spa-like vibe.”
Molitor’s favorite part of this design is the shower area, particularly its combination of a green-tiled
“Between the wet room feel, the wood accent ceiling and the green accent tile wall, I know the clients will have a timeless design to last a lifetime,” said Molitor.
