Designer Sarah Barnard of Los Angeles-based Sarah Barnard Design is known for designing with wellness in mind. For these clients with a 40-year-old kitchen, she wanted to create a space filled with natural light, clean air and non-toxic materials.
Before the redesign, this kitchen truly showed its age. One of the first things to go was this brick structure; its removal allowed for more functional countertop space.
Having failed to find a hood she liked to go with the Bertazzoni range, Barnard worked with several fabricators to design her own.
The cabinet doors, made of American walnut, are a raised-panel design with mitered corners and a natural finish.
The island is the main preparation area and includes a small sink with a faucet, a pullout sprayer and convenient undercounter trash and recycling bins. Custom-depth cabinetry allows for optimum storage from both sides.
“The client was given the opportunity to experience different recessed lamps after the installation was complete,” said Barnard. “They were most comfortable with dimmable 3000K LED lamps because of their soft, warm light.”
The new floorplan allows for easy traffic flow through the space.
