Designer Christopher Grubb of Beverly Hills, California-based Arch-Interiors Design Group was tasked with designing a new-build kitchen/great room combo that takes advantage of the Los Angeles outdoors.
“Access to the outdoors for indoor-outdoor living was extremely important and was addressed by using single light glass doors that open to create a full opening and seamless transition,” said Grubb. “This allowed the parents to watch their children and gave the feeling of doubling the usable size with an outdoor entertaining and dining area nearby.”
The great room includes a living area on one side and a kitchen set apart by a large island.
Backsplash windows were added between the lower and upper cabinetry and echoed above the upper cabinets to let in daylight.
To complement the stainless steel appliances and the variation of the gray in the wood of the cabinetry, porcelain tiles with metallic finishes in grays were chosen as the backsplash.
Full-height cabinetry covered in glossy white helps anchor the kitchen on one side. All of the major appliances are featured here, including a refrigerator hidden behind an integrated panel.
“I particularly love the amount of natural light,” said Grubb. “The oversized doors, especially when fully open, are a spectacular source of lighting.”
