This farmhouse kitchen needed to accommodate the home’s mountain views and the clients’ desire for more storage and functional space.
Before the redesign, this kitchen was dysfunctional, lacked a proper pantry and needed a serious aesthetic update.
Highlands Ranch, Colo.–based designer Jan Neiges removed the wall between the kitchen and dining area, which allowed space to fit the range and fridge all on one wall.
Neiges designed benches under the existing large picture window and installed them to wrap around toward the cabinets to the left of the fridge. This helped visually expand the kitchen.
The sink was originally on the wall facing the view, but by moving it to the island and installing large picture windows, Neiges was able to better enhance the views.
“Once I relocated the front entry closet to the hallway, there was room for a walk-in pantry, which is highlighted by a blue-painted barn door,” said Neiges.
When the low ceilings could not be raised and a beam could not be removed, the designer added beadboard and painted the entire ceiling the same white as the cabinetry.
Neiges positioned the range vent on the back wall facing the garage, which provided the space and height needed for proper ventilation through the garage roof.
