After a substantial fire, this kitchen had to be completely replaced to accommodate a young family. With a small budget but the help of insurance coverage, the homeowners rethought their kitchen with the help of designer Elina Katsioula-Beall of Pasadena, Calif.-based DeWitt Designer Kitchens.
For a more functional work and dining space, the corner prep sink now forms its own triangle with the stainless steel refrigerator and orange range.
The new kitchen includes a hutch to fit all everyday dinnerware and a lit wine cooler for the glassware.
“We needed to provide a Mercedes for the price of a Honda,” said designer Elina Katsioula-Beall of DeWitt Designer Kitchens. To save money, nearly everything was purchased online through eBay or Overstock, and the homeowner – with a contractor’s license – facilitated the installations.
The counters and backsplashes are all Carrara marble. “They are very fond of Carrara marble, which is eternally classic and one of the most effective marbles,” said Katsioula-Beall.
My favorite part of this project is the counteraction between white and color,” said Katsioula-Beall. “One can always change the color of a walls, but the combination of the aqua walls with the orange range was something I had not tried before, and it worked beautifully.”
