With a disorganized, 1990s-style kitchen, designer Allison Jaffe set out to rearrange the layout into a family-friendly, efficient workspace. “There was a lot of wasted space in this kitchen,” she said.
The countertop by the window was raised to create a seamless look, and the cooktop was moved next to the refrigerator and the island for a better functioning work triangle. For a traditional side, walnut with a rich chocolate stain makes up the Shaker-style cabinetry for a traditional foundation, while long cabinet pulls add modern detail.
A backsplash of glass tiles, long cabinet pulls and two large pendant lights filled with translucent, plastic leaves give the kitchen its jewelry.
With the sink in place on the island, everything is just within a few steps. “The workstation is compacted and efficient,” said Jaffe. “I just love that everything has a functioning aspect to it.”
