This new-build home just south of Boerne, Texas, was designed to be open to the surrounding hill country and a golf course. Designer and architect Craig McMahon of San Antonio-based Craig McMahon Architects created an intimate kitchen in this home that also connects to the outdoors.
McMahon connected the indoors and outdoors with glass walls and allowed the exterior stone to move from the outside to inside.
Since the homeowners wanted the kitchen to be slightly distinguished but still connected to the open living area, the designer placed it under a lower ceiling and used hardwood flooring instead of stone.
“As islands are becoming the ‘range rovers’ of the kitchen world, this one is no different with the Galley,” said McMahon, who used this system for the first time in this home.
Since the Galley is a multifunctional prep, entertaining and serving area, it freed up the layout of the kitchen and allowed for more open space on the end walls.
The gray cabinetry and the lighter countertops connect with the exterior wall limestone.
