To unify the design throughout the whole-home project, Alison Green, CKBD, who was a senior interior designer with San Diego-based Jackson Design and Remodeling (JDR) when the project was completed, used the same flooring in most spaces and a natural, neutral palette as a backdrop everywhere, allowing for occasional pops of color and the clients’ bold artwork.
The kitchen now opens to the living room and offers enough working space for two or even three cooks at a time.
A dark appliance wall anchors the kitchen, while the white countertops and lighter laminate upper cabinets keep the room from looking too heavy.
The LaCantina door has a black frame, so Green ordered kitchen window frames in a white finish to make that area seamless and avoid too many contrasting elements from drawing the eye.
Designer Green kept the same tile throughout the primary bathroom but used one with traction for the flooring. The decision helped dictate the tile color because only some Arizona Tile options were available in the desired finish.
In the son’s bathroom, the blue tile offered many possibilities. Each hexagon is an individual tile, and the pattern can be laid out in many ways to create different effects – a fun decision Green and the installer got to make.
