Winners Announced in Showplace National Design Contest
Judges’ Choice & Contemporary Kitchen Design winner – Julie Leverett with ONE eleven
This older couple wanted a kitchen that would add expansive quality of life and direct the focus away from their physical limitations, allowing them to concentrate on living full lives. They wanted an open-concept layout, providing a light, airy, spacious feel and allowing freedom of movement with full accessibility.

Because accessibility was an inherent part of the design rather than an afterthought, the universal design features of this space blend seamlessly and add to the beauty of the kitchen, rather than detracting from it.
Transitional Kitchen Design winner – Amy Britton, CKD with Artisan Kitchens Inc.
The homeowner ultimately wanted to incorporate several full-size appliances – including two dishwashers – with seating for a crowd so the kids could have lots of friends over. Britton needed to work around a brick fireplace that had to stay, and she also needed to add direct access to the backyard as the family planned to install a pool.

The wall opposite the window includes the refrigerator and abundant, efficient pantry storage. The wall cabinets on each side of the microwave were symmetrically steeped to artfully include the soffit, so wall storage space is not wasted and the cabinet placement in relation to the soffit is also aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Best Small Kitchen Design winner – Chenelle Johnson with DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen – St. Louis Park
This kitchen was small – 110 square feet – without space to expand, so the team had to utilize the existing footprint. The layout was redesigned to make good use of every square inch of available space.

The homeowners appreciate that they can both move freely and efficiently as they work in the kitchen together. They also love the mix of finishes, from the cabinets to the counters and flooring that all ultimately coordinate with the finishes in the living and dining rooms.
Transitional Bath Design winner – Briana Langel & Marie Hofmeyer – Holland House Interiors
For a dramatic powder room, this design team paired a rustic hickory Cognac vanity and soft gold finishes with emerald green walls.
