Home Renovations Americans Would Prefer Professionals Complete
March 21, 2019
Statistics from the Joint Centre for Housing Studies shows that Americans splash more than $300 billion annually on residential renovations. Interested in property upkeep, bathroom specialists Showerstoyou analyzed the latest findings from the National Association of Realtors, who surveyed 2,287 Americans to better understand which home renovation projects they would favor to do themselves over hiring professional help and vice versa.
Showerstoyou found that the majority of Americans would prefer to get a professional (89 percent) to complete a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) replacement as opposed to handling it themselves (11 percent).
Thereafter, homeowners would opt for competent builders (65 percent) to revamp their entire kitchen rather than doing it on their own (35 percent). With the bathroom being another focal point in the home, more Americans have a preference to get expert help (64 percent) to add a new bathroom than do it independently (36 percent).
Interestingly, people seem evenly split between hiring a tradesperson (50 percent) or taking the responsibility on their shoulders (50 percent), when attempting to convert their attic into a living area.
On the other end, a closet renovation is the home improvement project residents (69 percent) have the most confidence to complete entirely on their own merit, with only 31 percent stating they would go with using the services of a carpenter instead. Just above, Americans (56 percent) are equally assured in their ability to refinish their hardwood flooring and transform their basement into a living area – in contrast to searching for a professional (44 percent) to undertake either task.
“Renovating can become an integral part of the property-owning experience,” said Martin Smith, managing director of Showerstoyou, https://www.showerstoyou.co.uk/. “The longer someone lives in a place, the more inclined they feel to create an environment which represents them and comfortably matches their living needs. They therefore carry out a various interior and exterior changes across their abode. What’s fascinating about this study, is the level of trust and confidence that homeowners either place on themselves or a professional to see through a range of renovation projects.”
