House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year returns to Rockefeller Plaza in New York City on July 19, featuring an all-new design by Jeff Lewis, star of Bravo’s Flipping Out.
“My personality is reflected in my design,” Lewis said. “I don’t like clutter or confined spaces, and I need things to be clean and minimal. I wanted this kitchen to reflect my lifestyle and how I entertain. It leans more modern with a mixture of natural elements for warmth. The result is a sophisticated multifunctional living space.”
The Kitchen of the Year will be open daily from Monday, July 19, through Friday, July 23. The hours are from 2 pm to 4 pm on Monday and from 9 am to 4 pm the rest of the week. Each day, cooking demonstrations and tastings, tours and presentations on everything related to kitchen design will be offered. Visitors will also have a chance to meet Lewis at events all week long. A complete schedule of events can be found by visiting the Kitchen of the Year online.
In addition to opening Kitchen of the Year, House Beautiful will also present “Tastes of Summer” on Rockefeller Plaza, which will offer visitors a sampling of delicious food and beverages for a nominal fee from some of New York City’s restaurants. Those interested in participating can stop by July 20-22, from 11 am to 2 pm.
Two charity organizations are beneficiaries of this year’s kitchen installation. Monies raised form the project will support The Alpha Workshop, a not-for-profit organization that trains and employs people living with HIV/AIDS in the decorative arts. Select products from the Kitchen of the Year will be donated to ReStore/Habitat for Humanity at the conclusion of the event.
For those outside of the New York area, the Kitchen of the Year will be featured in the October 2010 issue of House Beautiful and online, where videos, podcasts and special features can be found.
